I heard the other day that if politicians get 10 letters on something, they assume it’s a big deal. So rather than get on Facebook and vent to all of my friends about yet another shooting (yawn …), I took a few minutes and wrote to every single one of my representatives this morning.
Here’s what I sent to U.S. Senator Pat Toomey:
Another mass shooting in our country. It’s unacceptable.
I’m tired of all the thin arguments against meaningful gun control. YOU, Senator, have blood on your hands if you let the gun lobby continue to bully Congresspeople in order to prevent sensible laws related to firearms.
I’m not saying that we should do away with the right to carry guns. But any notion that it’s an all-or-nothing deal is complete hogwash.
You were elected to help protect the people of this country. You are failing at your job. Quit the political posturing and save some lives.
If you don’t, I hope you go to bed every night thinking of the innocent people who have been gunned down on your watch.
Be bold enough to stand up for what’s right. Thank you.
